Author's Chair

We are ROLLING out Writer's Workshop this year and I'm kind of excited about it. Here is our Author's Chair. I bought the bar stool from Walmart. My dad chopped the legs off for me at the bottom to shorten it up a bit and then I painted it. :)

Open House

Open House...exciting!! It's the start of a new school year and it's time to meet all of the bright and shining faces that you are about to spend every single day with for the next year. Not to mention, all of the former students who stop by to show some love and make me feel like a ROCK STAR. Man, I love those kids! The preparation is exhausting...but it's so great! Here's a little peak at my Open House.
Here is what my students found on their desks this year. They just LOVED it when I read the tag to them (of course with exaggerated enthusiasm). Nothing beats seeing those grins stretch from ear to ear for the first time. I snagged the super cool tag "My Future is so BRIGHT I've got to wear sunglasses" from Hope King's TpT store. Check it out here! https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Hope-King
The back to school confetti isn't new. I did that last year as well. I tell the students to put the bag of the magic confetti under their pillow the night before first grade and it will take away all of the nervous feelings. I'm super proud of my presh parent brochure. It gives lots of great information about how our classroom will run.

The Giving Tree is something I've done since the beginning of time. I think I stole this idea when I was student teaching. I made the adorable printable apples. I just tape them up there for the parents to "pick" which donations they would like to make to the classroom. You can get these printable apples from my TpT store. :) Click the picture link below.

Reward Coupons

When back to school is approaching, I always seem to rethink my classroom management system. EVERY SINGLE YEAR. It worked fine the year before, but for some reason I have to go over it and tweak it. Anyone else with me? So while I was brainstorming, I ended up creating reward coupons. I DO give out some candy as classroom incentives. An m&m here and there...hey..it works! However, these tickets are some of my favorite non candy rewards to use in the classroom. :) Well...some of them are non candy. One coupon actually says "Pick out Candy". :) hehe. Enjoy! Get them for free for a limited time at my TpT store.

My reentry to the blogging world!

Yes I'm blogging at 4 AM. No I couldn't sleep (long story). I am so excited to say that I am reentering the world of blogging!! I originally had a blog called "Learning with Mrs. Chavis"...I know...so original right? Anyways, I used it mainly to share with my parents about what was going on in our classroom. I ended up having a baby (Hallie Rae-now 2 years old) and fell off the face of the blogging planet. Excuses excuses. I plan to use my new and improved blog primarily for linking up with other teachers to share ideas and resources. I will probably mainly GET more ideas than I GIVE...I'm an idea thief. I don't feel naturally creative...so the internet has saved me! Every now and then I come up with a magical idea on my own...Maybe then I can sprinkle a little primary pixie dust into your primary classrooms! ;) I can't wait! Thanks to my friends Erin- The Elementary Darling & Randi- The Polka Dot Diva, who inspired me to start back blogging. <3
